Accuracy in the estimates of zucchini production related to the plot size and number of harvests Ciência Rural
Lúcio,Alessandro Dal'Col; Benz,Vilson.
ABSTRACT: The productive variability in horticultural crops affects the planning and quality of the experiments, inflating the error and leading to wrong conclusions with low experimental accuracy and reliability. The objective of this study was to dimension the plot size and number of harvests that are necessary so that there is improvement in the accuracy of zucchini production. The production data used was the one from the uniformity trials where the basic units (BU) were identified with the number of crop row and were numbered according to the position inside the row. With the values of individual production, (fresh fruit biomass) different plots sizes were simulated by summing up the adjacent BUs in the crop rows and the two forms of harvesting...

Environmental variables and Piper assemblage composition: a mesoscale study in the Madeira-Purus interfluve, Central Amazonia Biota Neotropica
Bernardes,Carolina; Capellotto Costa,Flávia Regina.
This study aimed to determine the effects of canopy openness, litter depth, soil cation content and texture on Piper assemblage composition at a mesoscale. Piper assemblage composition and environmental variables were inventoried in 41 0.125 ha (250 × 5 m) plots placed in a terra firme forest located in the Madeira-Purus interfluve, Central Amazonia. Ordination of the 41 plots by Non-metric Multidimensional Scaling (NMDS) in one dimension captured 58% of the floristic variation and was used as the response variable in multiple regression models. Environmental variables explained 39% of the variation in Piper assemblage composition, which was significantly related to litter depth, soil texture and canopy openness, but not to the cation content. Effects of...

Impact of economic factors on formal milk collection by the dairy industry in the main producing states in Brazil: a cointegration analysis R. Bras. Zootec.
Silva Filho,Jairo Vieira da; Figueira,Sérgio Rangel Fernandes.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to measure the short- and long-term elasticities of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), productivity, prices paid to producers, milk powder imports, minimum wages, and exchange ratios in milk collection between 1999 and 2016. For the measurement, the cointegration technique for data in a balanced panel was used, contemplating five states with great representativeness in the Brazilian industrial milk collection: Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Goiás, and São Paulo. These states corresponded to 73.3% of all formal milk collection in 2016. Results indicated that GDP, productivity, and imports impacted long-term milk collection. Productivity and GDP were the variables with the greatest long-term impact, with...

Leaf area estimation of cassava from linear dimensions Anais da ABC (AABC)
ZANETTI,SAMARA; PEREIRA,LAÍS F.M.; SARTORI,MARIA MÁRCIA P.; SILVA,MARCELO A..
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine predictor models of leaf area of cassava from linear leaf measurements. The experiment was carried out in greenhouse in the municipality of Botucatu, São Paulo state, Brazil. The stem cuttings with 5-7 nodes of the cultivar IAC 576-70 were planted in boxes filled with about 320 liters of soil, keeping soil moisture at field capacity, monitored by puncturing tensiometers. At 80 days after planting, 140 leaves were randomly collected from the top, middle third and base of cassava plants. We evaluated the length and width of the central lobe of leaves, number of lobes and leaf area. The measurements of leaf areas were correlated with the length and width of the central lobe and the number of lobes of the...

Models of mechanical cutting parameters in terms of moisture content and cross section area of sugarcane stalks CIGR Journal
Taghinezhad, Javad; Alimardani, Reza; Jafary, Ali.
The objective of this study was to find optimizing moisture content and cutting area of sugarcane stalk cutting parameters using multiple regressions and to verify the optimum levels of the variables.  The effect of moisture content and cutting section area on mechanical cutting properties of sugarcane stalks was studied using a linear blade cutting and UTM (Universal Testing Machine) size reduction device.  Data obtained in the laboratory were divided into four different groups in order to determine the peak force, cutting energy, ultimate stress and specific energy.  Additional criterions were also proposed and used as an indicator of the cutting performance.  These were the marginal cutting parameter (MCP) and return to scale (RTS).  The data obtained...

Molecular markers associated with the agronomic traits in the medicinal plant lemon balm Biological Sciences
Safaei-Chaeikar, Sanam; Rahimi, Mehdi.
Finding association between molecular markers and agronomic traits provide an excellent tool for indirect selection of a trait of interest in the population. In this study, stepwise regression analysis was used to estimate associations between ISSR and RAPD markers with some agronomic traits in lemon balm ecotypes. The analysis of results revealed significant associations between the traits and some of the studied loci. For all the traits, more than one informative marker was detected. Totally,90informative markers, including 48 ISSR loci and 42 RAPD loci, were identified. The SA-R-10, UBC826-1, UBC812-9, UBC813-10, UBC825-4, OPA-01-15, OPC-04-7 and CS-56-8 markers or fragment showed a significant correlation with Essential oil percentage and controlled...

Operating cost of sugarcane harvester in function of agricultural productivity and harvester age AGRIAMBI
Banchi,Ângelo D.; Garcia,Angel P.; Grespan,Andrei; Albiero,Daniel; Favarin,Luis G. A.; Galvão,Cezario B..
ABSTRACT The brazilian agriculture has expanded and improved its techniques in the last decades as well as the mechanization of sugarcane cultivation. Overall, the mechanization cost of this cultivation is the highest of the total cost of production in relation to other crops. That cost consists of several elements such as the cost of the harvester. This study aimed to develop a mathematical model that represents the operational cost of the harvester in relation to its operating life and agricultural productivity, parameters that are associated with its operational capacity. Simulations of this cost were conducted, raging the operating life of harvesters between 0 and 17,900 h, and the agricultural productivity of the cultivation from 50 to 130 Mg ha-1....

Prediction of egg weight from egg quality characteristics via ridge regression and regression tree methods R. Bras. Zootec.
Orhan,Hikmet; Eyduran,Ecevit; Tatliyer,Adile; Saygici,Hasan.
ABSTRACT This study was conducted on 2049 eggs, collected from commercial white layer hybrids, with the purpose of predicting egg weight (EW) from egg quality characteristics such as shell weight (SW), albumen weight (AW), and yolk weight (YW). In the prediction of EW, ridge regression (RR), multiple linear regression (MLR), and regression tree analysis (RTM) methods were used. Predictive performance of RR and MLR methods was evaluated using the determination coefficient (R2) and variance inflation factor (VIF). R2 (%) coefficients for RR and MLR methods were found as 93.15% and 93.4% without multicollinearity problems due to very low VIF values, varying from 1 to 2, respectively. Being a visual, non-parametric analysis technique, regression tree method...
